Infant Development and Aboriginal Infant Development Programmes

Our Philosophy

During the first three years of a child’s life, learning takes place during everyday experiences. The Infant Development Programme’s philosophy is to provide family centered services. Families are encouraged to take the major role in the decision making process regarding their child’s health and educational services.

Our Services

Usually, a baby from birth to three years develops at a rapid pace. Some babies, however, are slow to reach developmental milestones such as sitting unsupported, playing with toys, walking and talking. Infant Development Consultants are professionals trained to assist you.

A Consultant will visit with you in your home and work with you to develop strategies to encourage your child’s development, based on your child’s routines and practical everyday care. Using these suggestions and your knowledge of your baby, you can encourage the development of physical, social, communication and cognitive skills.

Books about child development, parenting and medical conditions, as well as special toys and equipment, are available to borrow. Written materials may also be available in languages other than English.

The Langley Infant Development Programme offers a weekly playgroup for children, parents and siblings. Playgroup provides children with opportunities for social, play, and group activities. In addition, the playgroup offers parents a place to meet and to share common experiences and concerns. Consultants can also refer you to other community resources that may help you to meet your baby’s needs.
